X70 Weld Qual Query

X70 Weld Qual Query

X70 Weld Qual Query

(OP)
Hi
I have been given a Back to base metal repair using 625 Clad to look over for repairing X70. The PQR material certificate states X65 but the mechanical properties and chemistry meet X70. The PQR test results show results exceeding X70. Could this be acceptable if a new WPS is written or should I ask for a supplemental test using the parameters used on the X65 procedure
Thanks

RE: X70 Weld Qual Query

If you are working to API 1104, a base metal change is an essential variable change. If the material has been dual certified you still will need a separate PQR for the higher strength group.

Many thanks, working to ASME IX, knocked procedure back, we'll see what happens next

RE: X70 Weld Qual Query

If you are working to ASME IX why is it unacceptable ?
Is impact testing required ?
X65 = P1 Gr 2 and X70 = P1 Gr 3.
Cheers,
DD
