Outdoor Advertising Association of America

I have a pole foundation spreadsheet from this source. However, my boss likes for me to back it up with hand calcs. Anyone familiar with this code/site?

RE: Outdoor Advertising Association of America

No, not familiar with it but the equations for a pole embedded in soil are well known and easily searchable online. Holler if you can't find them.

RE: Outdoor Advertising Association of America

Hey Jerehmy, that's superb! thumbsup2 I've never seen that nomograph, only the equations.

RE: Outdoor Advertising Association of America

I found it in "Pole Building Design by Donald Patterson" circa 1970. Can't find it online and TBH I'm not sure how or where I downloaded the paper from.

P-Y Analysis is your friend.

Here's the page of my website you got it from, about 3/4 of the way down. One of the first documents I scanned and posted 10 years ago. Glad you were able to share it.

Thanks, I love you guys.

RE: Outdoor Advertising Association of America

It's great to be an old engineer. I think most of us oldies have had that nomograph in our notes for years.

RE: Outdoor Advertising Association of America

sliderule - I should have known I got it from you haha. I'll know for next time

RE: Outdoor Advertising Association of America

This is the same as the old AASHTO nomograph for signal pole foundations, if you are looking for commentary to go along with it.

Leftwow,

I couldn't find the spreadsheet at the Outdoor Advertising Association of America. would you either tell me where it is located on that site or post a copy of the spreadsheet here?

Thanks

Jim

RE: Outdoor Advertising Association of America

If anyone ever decides to print SRE's library pls inform me....I will buy stock in the paper company and the ink cartridge company!!!!

Thanks, SRE for all the info you share.

I'm not sure where I got the excel sheet from honestly. Can you upload an excel file?

RE: Outdoor Advertising Association of America

Did you by chance download it from Alex Tomanovich's spreadsheet at www.steeltools.org ? It can still be found there.

RE: Outdoor Advertising Association of America

I have looked at Alex Tomanovich's spreadsheet and it does contain a module which uses the OAAA method to solve this problem.

I guess I already had the spreadsheet and didn't know it.

RE: Outdoor Advertising Association of America

The AITC timber manual, 4th edition has equations for same... FWIW

(and I didn't feel all that old 'til I saw a nomograph I've had for years ;) )

RE: Outdoor Advertising Association of America

I once wrote a basic program to solve this.

RE: Outdoor Advertising Association of America

A star to your boss for requesting that you know how to do this by hand and not rely on an un-known spreadsheet
