Ive recieved files that were supposedly created in Catia, but the file extensions are model, and exp.  Does anyone have a clue as to how I could be able to convert these to something readable by Solidworks or even autocad?

RE: catia-*.model , *.exp file reading

You could simply try to change the file extension from .model to a SW file extension, just make sure you try this on a copy of the original file.  The best thing to do would be to contact the person you received these files from and ask them to send them to you in a more universal file format, such as Iges or Parasolid.

RE: catia-*.model , *.exp file reading

You are going to have to have them translated into a format that Slidowrks can read...

Out of the box SolidWorks can read Catia .CGR files...

other than that you need an iges, step, or preferrable a parasolid.

There are other add-in's that you can purchase such as an ELysium direct translator for Catia and SW... it's bi-directional by the way.

hope that helps.
