Material for weld-ins to cladded vessel

Material for weld-ins to cladded vessel

Material for weld-ins to cladded vessel

(OP)
All,
A cladded tower with support rings and beam seats for trays, loose packing, structured packing or catalyst and removable support beams.

Vessel vendor is trying to do something simple by using stainless steel weld-ins and weld on top of clad, but they ignore the thermal stress and deformation due to different thermal expansion between SS weld-ins and CS vessel wall.

Without getting into FEA, can someone advise beyond what stress limit and temperature that you do ask for C.S. weld-ins, welded to based metal and then covered with weld overlay.
I have seen a stress limit beyond 25% of the weld-ins allowable, but haven't seen any temperature limit.

(I will be Ok with S.S. beam seat because it is free to grow internally and normally it is a local and small piece, so thermal stress is not a concern in my opinion. But full 360 degree support ring could be a problem)

RE: Material for weld-ins to cladded vessel

Is the vessel in cyclic service?

(OP)
TGS4, not in cyclic service.

RE: Material for weld-ins to cladded vessel

Then I wouldn't be overly worried about the differential thermal expansion.
