Charpy Question

Charpy Question

Charpy Question

(OP)
I have a customer requesting us to modify a procedure so that it will be good for 3/8" with impacts. The code is NACE MR0175 and ASME Section IX. Do I need to only weld up a 3/8" plate following the original procedure and have that plate impact tested or does it need to include tensiles/bends/hardness survey and charpy?

I talked to a few people and they each said something different. One says just do the 3/8 plate and do impacts. Another says impacts and hardness survey, while yet another says impacts, hardness, and tensiles.

RE: Charpy Question

Use the same WPS, run a coupon for CVN testing and hardness.

RE: Charpy Question

ASME IX ; QW-401.3
"When a procedure has been previously qualified to satisfy all requirements other than notch toughness, it is then necessary only to prepare an additional test coupon using the same procedure with the same essential variables, but additionally with all of the required supplementary essential variables, with the coupon long enough to provide the necessary notch-toughness specimens"
