Separation

(OP)
Dear Sirs,

We are Facing problem in complete separation of Organic layer from the Aqueous layer. We are giving serial washings to the Aqueous layer with DCM ,After Each Washing We  are allowing half an hour for settling and Organic layer is tansfered into a receiver. Because of some physical constraints we are not transfering organic layer by Gravity flow , Instead we are pumping it.(pump will be stopped immediately after the water traces appears in the View Glass in Suction line). Our problem is that even after careful observation also water is getting up Mixed up and the presence of water is causing worrisome as it is decomposing the product.
Please Help me in finding soln. As the Receivers are at Gound Floor Separation by Gravity is not Possible.we have think the alternative within existing setup.

Thanks & regards

MM

RE: Separation

A pump is not a good way to separate water and organic layers.   The pump creates vortices that mix it back up again.     Try to make this an inline process (not batch) .  Pull off the organic layer high on the top and leave a some minimum level of organic layer in the decanter.
