standpipe question

standpipe question

standpipe question

(OP)
in NFPA 14...7.4 Number of Standpipes. Separate standpipes shall be provided in each required exit stairway.

what does this mean?

shall I have standpipe riser as the required exit stairway. I mean if I have 6 exit, shall I have 6 standpipe risers, or six valve connections that supplied from one riser?

RE: standpipe question

If the stairwell is required by building code and/or AHJ, then you have to provide a standpipe in each of them and provide a valve to serve each floor which that stair serves, from that valve. Each riser must also have a shut off valve to isolate the riser.

You can have six valve connections on a single riser, if you are serving six floor levels.

RE: standpipe question

If you read through NFPA it tells you where you have to have the hose valves, intermediate landing or main landing depending the year you're referencing. The standpipes also need to be interconnected. The local responding fire department should also be consulted to confirm that the hose valves are at a location that works with their fire fighting tactics.

My experiences is the similar to PEDARRIN2, in that if it is a required stairwell for egress it needs a standpipe. You may also need to extend to the roof if a hose valve is required there.
