Restriction Orifice Application

Restriction Orifice Application

Restriction Orifice Application

(OP)
I have observed an application in our plant in which a restriction orifice is installed on the flange connection between check valve outlet and pipeline on a pump's discharge line. Is this practice acceptable? Is there a standard on appropriate location/position of restriction orifices? Thanks.

RE: Restriction Orifice Application

It was probably installed at that location because it was a convenient spot with two flanges.

Would suspect that the pump was incorrectly sized and the orifice was an inexpensive fix.

Unless you typically things out to multiple decimal places, the location does not matter. You are already taken an efficiency penalty with the orifice plate.

RE: Restriction Orifice Application

casiocalculator,
If location of restict orifice is circulation line , that mean for protect the minimum flow of pump.
You can search in internet for "minimum flow of pump".
