Hole Tolerance Of Car Body For Grommet

Hole Tolerance Of Car Body For Grommet

Hole Tolerance Of Car Body For Grommet

(OP)
We have a grommet that fits a .750" hole of a vehicle. The question we have is what is the typical tolerance of the hole in the vehicle for a grommet? We want to make sure the grommet will always fit the hole.

Thanks,

RE: Hole Tolerance Of Car Body For Grommet

Depends on what the hole was for, and it depends on what tolerance the original manufacturer put on that hole, which in turn depends on what the hole was for!

Normally, those original production tolerances are absolutely confidential information shared only with those that the vehicle manufacturer chooses to share them with (i.e. with whoever is actually manufacturing that part, or someone who in their eyes actually needs that dimension), and they make that decision, not you. In other words, chances of you (presumably a "nobody" in the eyes of the auto manufacturer) getting your hands on the actual engineering information through official channels is slim to none.
