Simulate a embeddment test

(OP)
Hi guys
I need to simulate a embeddment test. I have made a model in Abaqus. But I don't know how to define the contact between the coach screws and the wood, the contact between the coach screws and the loading head. Any ideaa? your suggestions are weclome and much appreciated. (^3^)

Any ideas?

RE: Simulate a embeddment test

Hello,
I guess I would make (if you just need it to run) an interaction property, "hard" contact, µ=0.1 (?). Then apply a general contact. Beware of initial over-closures since general contact may adjust them. Also make sure you get contact in areas you intend to or expect contact.

Are you asking how to define the contact in CAE or how to most accurately model the contact?

/Good luck :)

RE: Simulate a embeddment test

I may be wrong but you sound like you are new to FEM (not just Abaqus). If that is correct, then I suggest going through Getting Started Guide that comes with the Abaqus documentation. It will take time but it will help you immensely.

'Pretty pictures' are very easy to generate in computational mechanics (FEM, for instance); it takes a lot of effort to 'see' beyond them.

Hi Stefcon
Thank you for your suggestion. I will have a try and see what it goes.

Hi Icebreakersours

Yes, I just start to learn FEM. I have been studying the abaqus user manual for 4 days. i takes time, I know. Thanks.

RE: Simulate a embeddment test

Good.

When it comes to results, focus your attention on understanding various energies and history output variables in the examples that you will come across in the documentation. Viewing the 'pretty pictures', be sure you understand how the values are actually displayed during post-processing (averaging, interpolation, etc.)
