Unknown spring support ?

Unknown spring support ?

Unknown spring support ?

(OP)
Greetings,

This is my first post, so please be gentle smile. We are planning a one-to-one replacement of a topside flowline due to internal corrosion. A spring support will also have to be replaced, but unfortunately we do not have any documentation on it. All we have is a name plate and a serial number, but nobody inhouse seems to know the manufacturer or brand COMET ? We are hoping the manufacturer can find the spring support data via the serial number so we can order an identical unit, and avoid using additional engineering resources. The spring support is originally from 2002 or thereabouts. If anyone of you know the manufacturer of this COMET spring support and where to contact them that would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Unknown spring support ?

Holy crackamoly. That's an awful piece of rust. The design of the hanger itself is prone to picking up corrosion.
What I would do a it a new stress analysis of the line, so you can design a new spring support to the current operating conditions and process environment of the line. Get a decent support from Lisage and the likes, theyll outlast this one, as this design of the current one is just wrong. With a 1-to-2 replcament you'll risk a support failure in the near future.

Second, I would check all current supports if theyre the same as this one. If they are, its matter of time before something's about to happen.

Where are you located? And do you have a few more pictures?

It is located in the danish part of the north sea and is definitely not suited for this environment. We also have others in need of replacement and an inspections program is ongoing. We are hoping that the manufacturer has the original data and stress analysis for this support, so that we can order a new more suitable support without spending time on a new stress analysis. I do not have any more pictures unfortunately, is there anything in particular you are looking for ?

In addition to what robyengIT wrote:

"'Bergen Pipe Supports' supports are listed under the name ‘Comet’ (this used to be our brand name)."

Thanks guys, we'll try and contact both and see if any of them recognize the support.

RE: Unknown spring support ?

I would look for a hanger which has duplex spring material, and is suited for offshore.

Just a quick update: Through a local supplier we managed to find the original data. It was indeed a Bergen pipe Support. We have now ordered a new Lisega support, with Duplex housing and C5M coated spring.
