Hi folks,

Could you please get me the method for modeling this sheetmetal part in CATIA.i want to know where to start, where to define the bend line.please find the scanned attachment.

RE: sheetnetal modeling

check the online doc that comes with catia

Hi itsmyjob,

The modeling part is not given in documentation.

RE: sheetnetal modeling

nothing attached to the thread. well actually it's tree ways to work with sheet metal.
first you can start with flat pattern and then you begin to bend it. just use a sketch to draw bend lines.
with a second way you can start with web creation and then add flanges.
third method requires aerospace sheet metal license and in most cases based on surfacing.

well there are a lot of info about sheet metal design over the Internet.

see attached pdf file

Cheers.

Wrong, there are many files to look at in online doc... check generative sheetmetal

done in <5 minutes with 2 walls + a bend

I don't know if the (22.6) and (68.8) are compatible... but like I said... done within 5 minutes

Nice......!

RE: sheetnetal modeling

those dims are reference. sudhakarn just learn basics of sheet metal and you'll find several ways how to design this part using generative sheet metal.

Hi itsmyjob,

Yeah i knew it was simple except the twisted bend where i was not clear and confident. Any way thanks for your inputs.but i was trying it with a bend from flat.
so my question are:

1.how do u locate the bend lines ( pl mention the dim.in this drwng ) if u were to do it with bend from flat.
2.what are the lengths of the walls u have taken here before doing a cylindrical bend?
Please clarify.i want to make myself pretty clear in this area.
Thank u.

RE: sheetnetal modeling

when i do 2 walls the bend line is somewhere at the connection of the two wall.
the lengths I used are 42.5 and 31.3 dimensions

because of the dimension 42.5 I decided to go 2 walls and not start from flat, but you go the way you want and tweak sketches to get proper 3D.

RE: sheetnetal modeling

if you want to bend from flat just draw a bend line acc.to drawing requirements. you have distance and angle. try that.

Thank you so much itsmyjob and jenial for your inputs. i am getting some light on this now.i understand that locating the bend line is clearly as per the drawing requirements.
