Hi all,

If there is grain that is 1000 nm in length and 10 nm in height, and in Abaqus I use a C3D8R element with 100:1 aspect ratio to simulate the grain. Now, if there is another grain that is 2000 nm in length and 20 nm in height, and this time in Abaqus I make the element twice as long and twice as tall, but still keep the aspect ratio at 100:1. Are these two elements equivalent to each other? When the simulations are done, do I get the same results in terms of stress-strain responses?

In other words, is an element of length 1000 and height 10 the same as an element of length 2000 and height 20?

Abaqus is also dimensionless so if you adjust your boundary conditions and material properties you could get the same response. I'm not sure why you would though.

To IceBreakSours's note they would be equally poor elements.
