ASME BPVC Sec. IX weld overlay PQR
ASME BPVC Sec. IX weld overlay PQR
(OP)
I am about to try to qualify a weld overlay procedure to ASME section 9.
Question is, base material has elongation over %20(~25) and the overlay weld metal has below %20 (~15). In this case what will be the bending jig dimensions according to QW-466? Which elongation have to be used to determine test jig dimensions?
Thanks in advance,

I have an other issue. Our client, asked for additional hardness test as per QW-453 note-7. Question is where hardness measurements should be made. Figure 462.5(e) is not clear about hardness (in my opinion : ) )
Should hardness measurement made on conditioned(prepared/machined) weld surface? or the macroetched transverse section of the weld. I attach a simple sketch. Please advise
thanks in advance,

Section IX 2013 Edition Table QW-453 Note 7 states
After surface conditioning to the minimum thickness specified in the WPS, a minimum of three hardness readings shall be made on each of the specimens from the locations shown in QW‐462.5(b) or QW‐462.5(e). All readings shall meet the requirements of the WPS.
Note 2 from QW-462.5 (a) as referenced from QW-462.5 (e)
(2) When a chemical analysis or hardness test is conducted after material has been removed from the as welded surface, the distance from the approximate weld interface to the prepared surface shall become the minimum qualified overlay thickness. The chemical analysis may be made directly on the prepared surface or from chips removed from the prepared surface.
For the transverse hardness tests (B) you should obtain 3 readings from near the weld interface to the outer surface and not across as you depict either on an as-welded or after prepping (However, your qualified hardfacing thickness will be the thickness after prepping) weld coupon.
