SS - Weld Filler Strength, FEXX, and Fu?

SS - Weld Filler Strength, FEXX, and Fu?

SS - Weld Filler Strength, FEXX, and Fu?

(OP)
Hello, all.

I am trying to determine the strength available to me in a weld between two stainless steel Grade 304L components. Based on what I've found thus far, the recommended filler material for this weld is 308L stainless steel. But what weld strength does this provide? It is easy to find typical mechanical properties of 308L SS, such as yield strength (Fy) and ultimate strength (Fu), but nowhere can I find something telling me the equivalent of an FEXX for 308L SS.

So my question is--is there a way to translate from the other properties (such as Fu) to FEXX?
I.E., is it safe to assume that Fu = FEXX for a weld with that material as the filler?

As you may imagine, my primary experience is with welding of carbon steel. I assume that fillet welds are still allowable in SS welding......

Thanks!
