Step Files and AutoForm

Step Files and AutoForm

Step Files and AutoForm

(OP)
One of my responsibilities is surfacing for our simulation dept. The surfacing can be done in NX or another software, any surfacing done in the other software is imported into our NX assembly and exported from there to AutoForm. We have found that exporting step files seems to be the most stable going into AutoForm. My question is, do I have control over the name as it appears in AutoForm?

File contents created and exported from NX
Name of the step file when imported into AutoForm:
F04T12_13101_Upr-kray0A705043nrau_body1
The portion highlighted in yellow is the file name, I'm not sure how the portion highlighted in red is generated

File content created in the other software, imported into NX and then exported to AutoForm.
Name of the step file when imported into AutoForm:
F02T08_13203_Lwr-Lower_Post
The portion highlighted in yellow is the file name, portion highlighted in red is the name of the feature in the other software.
Can I control the portion highlighted in red when exporting the step files?

Thanks,
Kevin

RE: Step Files and AutoForm

How are you importing from the "other software" into NX? After you import into NX, does the string "Lower_Post" appear as the feature name (in the part navigator) or body name (information -> object -> select solid body OR turn off the part navigator timestamp order and the name will appear by the "solid body" icon)?

The first part of the string that NX is generating, kray0A705043nrau_body1, looks much like the names of the .rol_bin or .syslog files that NX generates. For examples of these, find your system's temp folder and open it up; unless you have a script that cleans out your temp folder regularly, you will see dozens of files with similar looking names {user}{random string}.syslog or .rol_bin. I'd guess that since the original body doesn't have a name, NX generates one for you upon export.

cowski,

Sorry for the delay, I use File/Import/CatiaV5.
The string appears as the body name.
I can only get the object name by turning the timestamp off, information/object only gives me the feature name.
I never thought to turn the timestamp off and check the naming, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks again,
Kevin

RE: Step Files and AutoForm

If you use Information -> object... make sure that you select the body object and not the feature. Also, it will only report the name if a custom name has been assigned to the body; otherwise no name will show up in the information window.
