OK guys, I was curious what your opinions were on this. It's a simple horizontal tank foundation supported on 2 footings the same size. They would be approximately 34 feet away from each other. My superior is saying in the longitudinal direction the moment that is distributed along that axis (approximately 75 kips) is supposed to be divided by half ((75/2)*height y) at the base of the pedestals and the base at the footings. However it doesn't seem like it would be that easy. Any tips or comments would be greatly appreciated!

RE: horizontal tank foundation

That sounds about right to me so long as the tank can be thought to be a fairly stiff axial member.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

Alright thanks KootK

RE: horizontal tank foundation

The tank itself is probably stiffer axially than the pedestals are in flexure, right? So, splitting the lateral load equally makes sense to me. Unless one pedestal has a slide plate to accommodate thermal expansion or something.
