Welder Qualification

Welder Qualification

(OP)
Is ASME IX Table QW-461.9 Performance Qualification — Position and Diameter Limitations (Within the Other Limitations of QW-303) applicable for the Welder and Welding Operator Qualification especially for Plate Welding?

In ASME IX Table QW-461.9, is Performance Qualification was also referred to Welder/Welding Operator Qualification?

Is it correct to say the if a welder will be qualified for ALL Position under ASME IX, he/she shall be qualified with 2G, 3G and 4G?

Unlike in AWS D1.1 a welder qualified with 3G & 4G is qualified for ALL position.

RE: Welder Qualification

Exactly. ASME = 3G + 4G + 5G [thus the use of 6G for 'real' welders]
AWS = 4G + 5G

RE: Welder Qualification

I always thought, [6GR, was for 'real' welders]
