RCC Pile design
RCC Pile design
(OP)
Hi All,
i am just learning how to design a Pile and pile cap for a RC column . Can anyone explain how the column moments and shears are transferred to ground through the pile group. And what are the governing load combination for the design ?.
Kindly suggest some useful reference ( Quick ones )
Thanks
Akhil

RE: RCC Pile design
See the sketch below Akhilkp. Each pile in the sketch represents an out of plane row of piles. There are a lot of permutations of the concept depending on the assumptions made but the basic idea is the same. The shear is generally assumed to be resisted the piles uniformly and via lateral soil pressure near the top of the piles. The axial loads in the piles can be determined using a point support version of P/A + M/Sx or P/A + M/Zx if the cap can be assumed to be rigid.
All of the load cases listed in the building code that applies to your project's jurisdiction should be considered.

These are not "quick" references but you may be able to get by reading select chapters etc.
