Different vertical stress in mountainous area for a mine

Different vertical stress in mountainous area for a mine

(OP)
Hello everyone,

I want to use ABAQUS for underground mine design. the top surface is highly variable, in other words, parts of the mine is overlain by mountain and others are overlain by valley), moreover it is very irregular. Hence, the vertical load will be different.

My question is how how to apply a varying vertical stress on the top surface of the mine.

I was thinking of making dividing the top surface of the model into several parts and apply the corresponding vertical stress for each part. However the model is very big, and it is time consuming, is there any better way to apply different vertical stress, can i import a contour map to ABAQUS?

Thanks
