Surface Designation for Export

Surface Designation for Export

Surface Designation for Export

(OP)
Hey Community,

Is there an option to group/name surfaces, so they will be grouped in CAE software tools (e.g. ABAQUS)

Often we have to export the CAD files in exchangeable format (x_t, x_b, IGES, STEP) in order to use them in CFD or FEM software tools. Usually, we group and name the surfaces in the CAE software, but it would be beneficial to make this step in NX... so I can change the geometry in NX and exchange the body in the CAE software, while all boundary conditionsand, mesh settings etc. would be retained.

Is this possible or only available if native CAD data are exchanged between the NX and CAE tools?

Thanks in advance!

RE: Surface Designation for Export

I don't think that group information is saved in parasolid, STEP, or IGES files, but object names generally are preserved. Try giving the desired faces and/or bodies names before exporting (select object -> properties -> general -> enter desired name).
