Ring gasket- Groove one side only

Ring gasket- Groove one side only

I'm reviewing the design of a pressure vessel that uses a ring type gasket. The gasket is neoprene instead of metallic. There is a gasket groove on only one of the flange faces. The gasket seals against a flat face on the other side.

Does anyone know what a design like this might be based on?

Got a sketch?

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Thanks Compositepro.

The condition I have is the face seal O-ring in the reference you sent. I'll look through that and see if it answers my questions.
