What type of welding are you performing with the stellite? Are you applying the stellite as a hardfacing?

RE: Welding Procedure for Stellite Material

It has been close to 40 years since I have used this material, but in the past I have used it for hard facing Automobile engine valves, and edges of disposable punch dies made from mild steel.
The technique used then, was to use an oxy acetylene torch, heat the base metal to the point of decalescence then butter the Stellite onto the surface.
The part would then be cleaned up by grinding.
