MINIMUM BEND RADIUS

MINIMUM BEND RADIUS

MINIMUM BEND RADIUS

(OP)
I have a 1" stainless pipe, with a 1.097" ID and a 1.315" od. I found a chart which says the min bend radius of this would be around 2.2". Does this make sense or can I go even smaller on the bend. It is used in a cooling glycol circuit, pressure from around 5psi operating to around 25psi.

RE: MINIMUM BEND RADIUS

You will find it possible, but difficult and very expensive, to try to bend a stainless pipe into a smaller minimum bend ratio without distorting the pipe roundness. Expect several failures for each good bend.

Filling the pipe with an accurately fitted interior may help, but that too increases fabrication expense and fab time.

RE: MINIMUM BEND RADIUS

Can't you just use elbows? either butt weld or screwed?

There are multiple suppliers who will make them for you.. e.g. http://www.spoolinperformance.com/degree-mandrel-b...

I think I will go with a butt weld elbow in stainless , the bend radius is 1.5 which is nice. Thanks

RE: MINIMUM BEND RADIUS

You should be able to get a short radius (1 D) elbow also.
