Stress Relief

(OP)
Hello all,
I am preparing a survey. I want to make sure evrything is in compliance to ASME VIII.
See, I have a part that is made of 4130 and is welded,so PWHT is required.

My concer about it , is related to how I can validade the PWHT was efffective. I am followign the UCS-56-1 for P1 matrial, how can I validate it works?

First think that comes to my mind is the hardness reading before and after PWHT but I wonder if there is any standard or process already defined to validate the process.

The reson I am asking is bacause API Q1 request to validate the process when required and this is one of those process I think shoudl be validated.

Please let me know

Regards.

4130 steel is not endorsed for pressure retaining service by ASME Section VIII, Div 1. It is not a P-No 1 base material, it is a low alloy steel.

If this material will be used for non-pressure retaining service, you will need to qualify your own PWHT procedure by welding a coupon and performing hardness testing to ensure your PWHT time at temperature does not alter the original mechanical properties from heat treatment (base metal hardness) and adequately softened the weld region (hardness of the weld metal and surrounding base metal heat affected zone).
