Shim plate to prevent bolts from riding the fillet

Shim plate to prevent bolts from riding the fillet

Has anyone done this, and if so any tips? I'm thinking a shim plate with the end where the fillet goes chamfered to allow for installation of the bolt. Problem is a four inch flange bolting into the flange of a beam above with a large fillet radius.

RE: Shim plate to prevent bolts from riding the fillet

Can you use a clipped washer instead per Table 7-15 of AISC Steel Manual?

I'm not sure those would be thick enough. Although I don't know the exact shape of the fillet so I'm making conservative assumptions.
