Lateral Bracing of CFS Roof Purlins / Joists

Lateral Bracing of CFS Roof Purlins / Joists

(OP)
The 1.5B22 metal roof deck has a 1/4:12 pitch.

The CFS Purlins / Joists are NOT pitched.

Purlins span 24 feet and bear on a steel shelf angle anchored to side of a CMU wall. At 1/4:12 pitch I do not intend on using roll-over tabs at bearing.

Top chord will be braced with the 1.5B22 Deck. What about the bottom chord?

I always brace a floor. What about the roof?

Is it necessary to use either Simpson Cross Bridging or Dietrich Trade Ready Blocking to laterally brace the bottom chord?

Thank you!

RE: Lateral Bracing of CFS Roof Purlins / Joists

They need it - especially for that span as they like to twist due to their lack of symmetry. I alway flip ever other one so the hard side of the studs face each other every other bay. Makes attaching blocking alot better. I just use a cut up rafter for blocking fastened with clips at each end. You can use AISIWIN 8.0 to determine the blocking spacing.
Seen a few of these collapse during erection. Flipping every other one and adding blocking as they go makes it alot more stable during erection.
