Suggestion for Shell element type for Stainless steel sheet metal part.
Suggestion for Shell element type for Stainless steel sheet metal part.
(OP)
Dear friends,
I am using a sheet metal part (Stamped Stainless steel part, 0.25mm thick) in my structural analysis. The geometry will appear like the letter 'C', which is fixed at the bottom edge and load is applied as a vertical displacement at the top edge. The deflection got after simulation is relatively much higher than the lab test results. I did use the default shell element type in ANSYS Workbench. Is there a recommended shell element type that relates to my application.
PS:I have not worked with shell elements before.
Thanks in advance.

There are few insights:
1) Check to validate whether it is proper to use shell elements for your problem?
2) If yes, then go to mesh and then change "element midside nodes" to "drop" instead of default option of "Program Controlled" and see the results
3) Check whether you've not kept NLGEOM option on by mistake. By default this option is off.
