Wind load and Earthquake load calcs per BOCA
Wind load and Earthquake load calcs per BOCA
(OP)
Does anyone have a good reference, with examples, for wind and seismic calcs per BOCA?
When was the last time you drove down the highway without seeing a commercial truck hauling goods?

RE: Wind load and Earthquake load calcs per BOCA
The wind is simple application of the formals and coefficients from the tables. I also believe that BOCA allows the use of ASCE 7-98 to compute wind loads. I happen to be a big fan of ASCE 7 despite its short comings. At least it tends to use more logical approach to wind load calculations. Also pressures are more realistic. If you choose to use ASCE 7-87, there is a design guide that goes with it. It can be purchased from ASCE direct. It has many worked out examples. The book can be found on ASCE web site www.asce.org
Also, get calc papers and try to work examples and with few practice sessions and may be having a peer you should become a pro at it.
As much as I hate to mention this, there are several software packages that are based on ASCE 7-98. Some are really excellent. However, I do not condone the use of the software by engineers who do not fully can understand the manual procedures and theory.
I hope this helps.
