Valves (150#-300#) with Seal & O-Rings

Valves (150#-300#) with Seal & O-Rings

(OP)
Hi Patrons,

In my experience of 12yrs as Piping & Valve Engineer, I have not seen any Valves (150#-300#), without any Seal or O-Rings. But in my recent projects, I have come across GA Drawings from some of the manufacturers, proposing a Valve Design without any seals (round sections). The valve has only the packing (generally graphite or PTFE). As per my understanding based on my previous exposure to Ball Valves with Seal & O-Ring from different manufacturer, I believe the SEAL & O-Ring (round shape) provides better seal tightness for zero leakage. Providing only packing (square sections) for Valve Body, may lead to leakage on long run. I do not complete dishonor the valve manufacturer claim for zero leakage from test (did not witness), but I do have some doubt in my mind about the integrity of the following design (please refer attachment). Any expert advice/justification to clear off this doubt, is requested.
