Concentrated Load

Concentrated Load

Concentrated Load

(OP)
Hi all

For IBC 2009 section 1607.4 states that the concentrated load can be distributed over an area of 6 1/4 SF. Is this the max area allowed? What about for one way slab, does it follow the 6 1/4 SF rule as well? Also would the thickness of concrete have any affect on the affected area?

Thanks in advance

RE: Concentrated Load

That is only for the concentrated loads specified in the Table 1607.1. It is not a general rule.

JedClampett, section 1607.1 is the minimum live load required. So as long as it exceeds the minimum it seems that I would have to use 6 1/4 SF, right?

By chance would anyone be able to lead me in the right direction for a general rule of point distribution for a one way slab, any code book with section number would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

RE: Concentrated Load

eng741, you've posted about 4 basic questions and I'm the only one who's engaged with you. Maybe you shouldn't argue.
