Car Wash Roof Framing

Car Wash Roof Framing

Car Wash Roof Framing

(OP)
Does anyone have any recommendations for car wash roof framing. I have seen both steel bar joist and precast hollow core concrete used in my area. Is one a better choice than the other?

Thanks!

RE: Car Wash Roof Framing

I like it in precast for durability but have seen plenty in steel. I'd think OWSJ would be a pain for hanging things from.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

RE: Car Wash Roof Framing

We just had a project which used wood trusses, much to the chagrin of the design engineersmad

RE: Car Wash Roof Framing

I lied, purlin and standing seam...I think the owner asked for wood, we wanted precast/masonry and the compromise was PEMB. Must be Friday..

RE: Car Wash Roof Framing

I did one in WI myself using wood trusses. Jeff Stetner Trucking in Whitewater I believe.

I have seen hollowcore precast concrete plank on CMU walls most often. Next time you get your car washed, take a look at how corroded the steel (e.g., overhead door tracks) looks!

Thanks for the comments! I had similiar thoughts. Maybe steel over the waiting areas / office and hollow core over the wash bays or just all hollow core. I will propose that and see how it goes.
