Press Fitting Pin into solid plate
Press Fitting Pin into solid plate
(OP)
Hey all, been trying to find a way to calculate the force required to press a steel pin into a steel plate, but haven't had any luck. All of the resources that i've found online are for shafts. My situation involves pressing this round pin into the plate. It's similar to a stud fastener as far as the application. The formulas and calculators that i've seen online all involve knowing the the interference pressure, but I do not know the interference pressure. I've looked through my old college engineering books, but still am only seeing applications for shafts. Could anyone set me in the right direction, or have any idea on how I could calculate the force required to press a steel pin into a steel plate? Thanks in advance!

RE: Press Fitting Pin into solid plate
I recall doing something similar to this. You know the range of interferences. You know the elastic moduli. You know the coefficients of friction, approximately. You can work out the range of normal interference forces. You can work out a range of friction forces.

The variations with the analyses depend on relative stiffnesses (e.g. hollow pin/shaft, thin plate/hub).
