Measure length of portion of a curve
Measure length of portion of a curve
(OP)
Hello everyone!
How can I associatively measure part of the curve to one side of some point in NX8.5?
Of course, there is a 'Points on Curve' option, but NX developers for whatever reson decided not to make it associative.
I came up with a solution in the attached model - duplicate a curve, trim it, and measure the remainder.
Is this the best possible solution?

An associative point on curve seems to work just fine for me, what are you seeing?
Insert -> datum/point -> point -> type: point on curve/edge -> associative option: on -> select curve -> specify location option.

John, any idea whay Points on Curves option measuring is made non-associative?

That being said, the 'Point on Curve' approach IS associative, just that it depends on how you defined the points. When measuring the 'Distance', use the Point selection options accessed from INSIDE the Measure Distance dialog, NOT the 'Snap Point' options in the Selection Bar. That way you can explicitly indicate how you wish to define the points and how those points are are to recorded. For example, in the case of the 'Point on Curve' method, you can use either Arc Length or a Percentage of the Length.
But back to the original issue, if you truly wish to measure the LENGTH of a curve, be it a Line or otherwise, creating a copy of the original curve, trimming it to its desired length then using 'Measure Length' is probably the best approach.

Are you talking about the measure distance -> points on curve option or the measure distance -> distance option? It seems that you are describing the distance option while PrintScaffold and I are talking about the points on curve option...
