Mass Concrete Reinforcement Distribution

Mass Concrete Reinforcement Distribution

Mass Concrete Reinforcement Distribution

(OP)
Hello!

I was hoping someone may be able to provide some insight or resources for the following:

Looking to design a large tank mass foundation that is founded on bedrock. The foundation is approximately 50'x50'x23' deep (square), with soil restraining the foundation on all sides up to grade (top of foundation). The foundation is subjected to mainly large gravity loads and is governed by bearing pressure. There is seismic loading on the tank too, which adds to the bearing pressure. The water table for the foundation is 7' below grade so the foundation will be subjected to saturation.

My question is this - I am looking for some direction as to how to determine the reinforcement required in the foundation and how it should be distributed to control cracking and temperature. The pour will likely be conducted during the summer months so we will likely be cooling the concrete during placing to mitigate high concrete heat.

I have been looking at ACI 207.1R & 207.2R; however I am finding it a bit confusing. Does anyone know of any additional resources or examples I may be able to look at? Does anyone have any practical experience with this?

If further information is needed please let me know.

Thanks in advance!
