Wind load over rive

Wind load over rive

Is wind load any different at river shore or middle ogf river compare to the land at low elevations? Can we use the ASCE7-05 land values in ASCE for objects floating on water?

Thank you

RE: Wind load over rive

I'd say you could use it but watch those exposure categories. How wide is the river from bank to bank and are there any straight portions that you might get exposure C or D in?

Any valleys or hills that might cause increased wind effects?

The River is 4,400feet wide bank to bank

RE: Wind load over rive

If the fetch distance across water does not exceed 5000 feet, then ground conditions prevail. Check the ASCE 7 definitions.

RE: Wind load over rive

It's not just across the river. It's parallel to it too. Any direction...

I dont have the code, I need to ask someone copy that particular page for me

Thank you so much.

RE: Wind load over rive

On a related note, I've always found it curious that the topographic adjustment factor only applies to "negative curvature" features (hills, ridges), and not "positive curvature" features like river valleys. Anyone know why that is?
