External loading stress on shell due to ear type lugs

External loading stress on shell due to ear type lugs

(OP)
Hi all.
I am a design engineer in a pressure vessel manufacturing company. My question is regarding the stress due to ear type lugs on shells subjected to internal pressure. These are C shaped lugs welded all around to the shell to be used as part of closure system. These lugs are welded to the shell and elliptical head in same pattern and used to close the opening between shell and elliptical head using swing eye bolts and nuts.(this web link shows a similar vessel:-www.precisionfiltration.com/images/products/vcs-85... code book does not provide any information on calculating these stresses. Can anyone please help me how to/ where to look for calculations regarding this?

RE: External loading stress on shell due to ear type lugs

WRC-107

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Isn't WRC 107 for nozzle connections. I thought that it takes into account large factors in stress calculation because of nozzle opening.

Round and rectangular attachments. Solid or hollow. Have a look.
