Pilecap/slab foundation horisontal reinforcement

Hi,

I´m interested to know how much horizontal reinforcement I have to use at faces of foundation cap/slab? All what I know is "Horizontal reinforcement must be provided in all faces of the pile cap" I know the requirements of tension reinforcement but I dont have any idea of reinforcment of other faces (Eurocode or ace)

I would like to know too as I've often wondered. Some thoughts:

1) If you use strut and tie methodology, which is often appropriate, there are requirements for side face reinforcing to limit crack widths etc.

2) Engineers seem to do this for just "general confinement" in deeper members. I see a lot of 15M@300 in foundations 900 m and thicker.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

Not required.

If you have horizontal loads you need some.
