DESIGN OF CLADDING MEMBER FOR SEISMIC

DESIGN OF CLADDING MEMBER FOR SEISMIC

DESIGN OF CLADDING MEMBER FOR SEISMIC

(OP)
Dear All,

I am designing the Structure which is in high seismic Zone and the building
is fully enclosed with steel cladding.

i am designing the exterior cladding members for wind pressure as per ASCE 7-10

For Designing the Cladding member for seismic force how to do it?
Can we do it as per Chapter 13 of ASCE 7-10 considering as architectural component?

Thanks
senthil

RE: DESIGN OF CLADDING MEMBER FOR SEISMIC

senthil,

You are correct, Sections 13.3 and 13.4 of ASCE 7-10 should govern the seismic member and connection design of the nonstructural components. On most of the cladding projects that I've worked on in high seismic regions the wind pressures have still governed. Of course the dead load of the system will determine if this is the case for your project. One thing that I would point out is that you account for the special anchorage requirements in section 13.4 when designing you connections for seismic.
