Minimal box size

Minimal box size

Minimal box size

(OP)
Hello,

I have an assembly in NX9 and I need to estimate minimal box size for this model for packaging and shipping. Is there a function which would allow me to quickly create this box?

RE: Minimal box size

To find the absolute minimum box, you probably need to run the optimize feature. - there is no "find minimum box feature" to my knowledge
If you can approximate the orientation of the box,- to find a "reasonably small box" - See http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=377786

Regards,
Tomas

RE: Minimal box size

In modeling, Create Box will do this.

RE: Minimal box size

That's true, but you need a Mold Design license to use this function.

RE: Minimal box size

@JohnRBaker, you used to, but since NX9.0.3, a normal modeling license is sufficient.
The thread Toost pointed to is one I posted a while back about exactly that.

RE: Minimal box size

I say this because when I tested this in NX 10.0 my Flexlm log showed that a "ug_mold_design" license was checked-out. Now it is true that I'm NOT running a bundled license but rather a full floating license configuration. It's possible that with one of the MACH bundles that this function is not being checked against a license but was simply lumped in with the rest of the bundle.

RE: Minimal box size

I haven't migrated to NX10 yet, but Create Box works for me. Running old ADVDES bundles here.
