Fan Design

(OP)
What effect does piping have on a fan/blower's static pressure.  The unit I'm working on requires an air pressure of 40 inches of water gauge.  The fan providing the air has an 8" diameter pipe at its discharge which proceeds to a 2' header and then to a 5" diameter pipe to a 2" line into the unit. I have not have any experience with industrial fans.  Thanks.

RE: Fan Design

You should check the pump curve/ specs for the particular fan/blower.    My experience is that fans/blowers do not have the ability to develope very much static pressure.  Fans generally have very little and are just air movers.   Blowers have some ability.

Also,  unlike water,  the velocity head is significant in blower/fan applications and cannot be ignored in
duct / blower sizing calculations, etc.
