UHX-14.2 The two tubesheets shall have same thickness

UHX-14.2 The two tubesheets shall have same thickness

(OP)
Dear Friends, bellow is my query for UHX-14.2

I have designed a HX , TEMA configuration is AEW. I have calculated the thicknesses for floating as well as stationary tubesheets, which are 17 mm and 19 mm respectively. I have provided Stationary tubesheet of 23 mm. Floating tubesheet thickness provided is 29 mm ( This is because, it is externally sealed with the help of O-rings. Hence construction requires at least 29 mm floating tubessheet thickness) But now MY Authorised Inspector is insisting to prvide same thickness i.e. 29 mm for stationary tubesshet also. He is insisting the same on the basis of UHX-14.2. But as per the given loadings as well as for tube to tubesheet joint, 17mm and 19mm thicknesses are sufficient. I have already provided Higher thicknesses than the required. Pls Guide.

Thanks in Advance......

RE: UHX-14.2 The two tubesheets shall have same thickness

abhimech1991, Part UHX clearly states tubesheets shall be the same thickness. The theory behind all the Part UHX calculations is no doubt based on this fact. So, that your calculations show the two thickneses are adequate could be suspect in your AI's eyes. Part UHX shows a skirt on the floating tubesheet when extra thickness is required for the sealing feature.

Now, chances are your design is just fine the way it is, but it's the AI you have to convince. I doubt opinions of unknown persons gathered from the Internet is going to carry much weight with him.

Well, best of luck,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Thnkas in Advance,

RE: UHX-14.2 The two tubesheets shall have same thickness

abhimech1991, no sorry I cannot, it is mostly beyond me. It (among other things) takes account of stiffnesses of all the components.

I can only offer this:
