Questions : the Cause of Expention Joint Distortion (Tank)

(OP)
Hello,

Related to some troubles in expansion Joints :
I'm guessing next two causes, but I'm are not sure.
First assumption is transformation caused by hammering phenomena according to sudden closes of shipment valves (Loading Type is Top Loading)
Second assumption is excess of tolerance limit of Expansion Joint according to Thermal Effect of shipment pipeline

I kindly ask anyone to answer me of technical analysis cases of above happening and request to give me any feedback on Causes and Solutions if possible.

if anyone need to see phenomena pictures, please let me know email address, then I will send it.

In addition, I'm working at the korean company operating several terminals through pipeline transporting refined products. The shipment way is Top Loading, Type of Tank is Covered Roof and Universal Expansion Joint is installed at In/Outlet & By-pass pipe in order to resolve Thermal Effect. About 20 years have elapsed after commencement of Terminal operations
