Lifting/erection stress in Tilt precast panels
Lifting/erection stress in Tilt precast panels
(OP)
Hello All,
I have trying to find lifting stresses for a tilt panel. I could do it when slings are in one position only. Can you explain me the process or on overview of how the pick-points are designed.
- The sling angle continuously changes while lifting so how do I accomplish the task of finding stresses?
- Also about the strong backs when do I decide to use them, is it when the stresses reach more than the flexural stress of concrete or is regarding to the geometry?

Lifting process need a little bit of arts.
So this should be contacted first with your lifting supervisors and/or contractors.
Basically, in all case, we should carry on the worst possible lifting scenario.
And if you are lifting very2 heavy things, then you should be very careful.
You may find a method or philosophy for lifting design in manual rigging books.
My previous experiences tell me that center of gravity is in the bottom of the lifting points.
and if you don't have choices for it, then make the lifting very stable (not tilting) during lifting process.
don't forget to put enough safety factors in your sling design (5 to 6 is ok).
use spreader/lifting beam when you encounter difficult arrangement of lifting configuration.
make sure you know where is the central gravity as close as possible and center of rotation.
if you have indeterminate lifting configuration, you may use distribution plates, in order to make it more or less equal.
