ACI 318 Current Requirements for crack width control in RC Columns

ACI 318 Current Requirements for crack width control in RC Columns

(OP)
Hi

Does anyone know the ACI requirements section for crack width control in concrete columns?

I know that for beams and slabs is ACI 3108 Section 10.6, However, what is the requirement for columns?

Anyone know?

Thanks

RE: ACI 318 Current Requirements for crack width control in RC Columns

There is no similar section for columns.
You have to have longitudinal bars between 1% and 8% of gross concrete area (Section 10.9) - preferably below 4% generally.

And there are tie requirements in Section 7.10.

Generally i keep maximum clear spacing between rebar 200 mm for columns in addition to what JAE said

I would assume that's because the columns are primarily in compression. Where they are in enough bending to concern us about crack width they should meet the beam requirements in my mind.
