Lining Material on CS vessel for caustic service
Lining Material on CS vessel for caustic service
(OP)
Hello
I am working on a project and need to design pressure vessels which are under caustic service with a design temperature of 350F. MOC for pressure vessel is SA 516 Gr 70.
Can anybody please suggest me the lining material that can be used for this service and the installation procedure?
Thanks
Ankush

Please suggest.

You could also talk to some chlor-alkali companies who make 50% caustic. I worked in one such plant during the summer (many years ago) and we stored 50% caustic in some pretty large storage tanks though they weren't nearly as hot as your service. They might have some coating experience and while it is unlikely to be as high as temperature as your case, it might give you some leads.

Your suggestion will definitely help.

At the first coating failure your vessel will crack so quickly that everyone will panic.
Seriously, these are either built of solid Ni alloys or Ni alloy clad onto steel plate.

Couple of questions, I'm assuming the fluids are what can be in this vessel at different times. 32% HCl and 36% NaOH won't be that for very long if you mix them before it gets very hot in a neutralization reaction.
You have a maximum working temperature of 40C and a design temperature of 100C. Typically, I would pick a coating good for the design temperature, that's however a big margin and could definitely affect what coatings are suitable. I would review what temperature you want the lining to be able to handle and set that as the design temperature if it's not 100C.
