Mn content and Mn:C ratio

Hi,

I have a question on the Mn:C ratio in casting low alloy steels. Can anyone refer me to some literature on how much manganese is safe (for hardenability) or is really detrimental to any low alloy steel (Quenched and tempered) after certain levels say 1.35%? and what is the relation to Mn:C ratio in adding Mn.
I know this sounds vague but thought of starting a thread and see what information can be heard.
Thanks!
