Column Size- Post Frame Building Design

Column Size- Post Frame Building Design

Column Size- Post Frame Building Design

(OP)
I am relatively new to the post frame building design having done only a handful of buildings thus far. The most recent is a 19' eave with a 80' span truss at 6' o.c.. The posts are not embedded. They are attached to the top of a grade beam foundation. I am using knee braces to eliminate rotational forces at the base. Per a previous design, a supplier has given me the # of ply's that were used for the columns on a building with the same dimensions. After running analysis, by following the Post-Frame Building Design Manual, I have come up with something different. I was wondering what others may have used or what a typical number of ply's for a 2x8 column would seem adequate for this size of building. The building is located in WI with an adjusted snow load of 27psf. I know that in 2013 Southern Pine lumber load tables where adjusted and thinking this may have to do with the column design difference. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

RE: Column Size- Post Frame Building Design

The knee braces introduce bending into your columns. If the tables are just for axial load, that may be the difference.
