Greetings Group.

I am trying to carry out a seepage analysis on a proposed sluice structure in Seep W. I have modeled the the basic geometry of the structure in terms of the sheet piling. I modeled 2 scenarios a 20ft long sheet pile and a 32ft long sheet pile. The results from the analysis shows that the 32ft long sheet piles are experiencing the most seepage under the structure.
Any ideas?

Interesting to hear that a computer program comes up with something like that. You can resolve this by drawing a simple flow net and maybe find where some input data needs changing.

You have a problem somewhere in your input data. I doubt that anyone here is going to try and trouble shoot your data file for you.

there is always a fundamental thing to bare in mind when it comes to softs : if the output is wrong then either your reasoning or input were wrong.

Akua,

I pulled up your files and I think I see the problem.

You are assigning a boundary condition (Potential Seepage Face) along the inside faces of the sheet-piles and along the underside of the concrete(?) apron. I think this confounds SEEP/W into thinking there is some discharge surface here, and it creates a water table line near the base of the piles, which is clearly incorrect. This boundary condition should be removed from each model.

There should be no specified boundary conditions, other than the Inlet Head and the Outlet Head. SEEP/W will then calculate the continuous head loss along the seepage surface contact between piles, apron and soil, and should calculate the correct seepage flux volumes below the toes of the piles.

Although strangely the flows are not the same on each flux section! I see the problem: the flux sections need to be exactly the same length for them to show identical fluxes. Use Define | KeyIn | Flux Sections to modify the coordinates of the points at each end of the defined flux sections so that they extend exactly from the toe of the pile (-20 or -32) to the base of the flow domain (-50).
