calculate force component

calculate force component

calculate force component

(OP)
Greetings everyone

first of all let me give a overview of machine that we manufacture based on which this problem is based

we manufacture this hydraulic press which presses powdered coal to make it in a cake form.

my question is when this hydraulic press puts pressure on powdered coal vertically. how much pressure will be exerted on side walls i.e. how to calculate horizontal component.

regards

RE: calculate force component

I think coal is similar to refractory material. If so, the orizontal force depends from the final thickness of the item in production but roughly in average the total orizontal force can be estimated at 50% of the pressing force.
If your material is rich of graphite, then the force is much higher and can be estimated at 90% of the pressing force.
These data are coming from field experience : better you can ask manufacturer of presses or manufacturer of moulds for refractories
